Viliv S5 MID gets accuracy-boosting HID driver for Windows 7

Viliv’s S5 MID, the little machine that packs the Vaio P’s Z520 processor in a legitimately pocketable form-factor, just got a breath of fresh air. It’s an HID (human interface device) driver for Windows 7, boosting the machine’s touchscreen abilities and enabling the breadth of Windows 7’s tablet functionality. According to Uber Tablet this greatly enhances usability by, amongst other things, presenting the Windows tablet keyboard rather than relying on the accessibility version and enabling better calibration. The driver being used here is legitimate according to reports we’ve read, but it is not signed and doesn’t appear to be an official release from Viliv, so you may want to exercise a bit of caution before you install — but don’t wait too long. This sounds like a pretty tasty update.

LG’s 15-inch 15EL9500 OLED TV sets sail for Europe, scheduled to arrive this May

We’ve had only tantalizingly brief (or is it briefly tantalizing?) chances to see LG’s glorious OLED television, but each and every time it’s left us with the feeling that our lives are poorer for not having one in our homes. Sure, that says as much about our tech addiction as it does about the 3mm-thick displays, but at least the deep-pocketed among us won’t have to wait too much longer to sate the need for 10,000,000:1 contrast ratios and 0.001ms response times. LG has announced it’ll be bringing it’s 15-inch OLED panel to Europe this May (to be swiftly followed by summer availability in the US) with a hefty MSRP sticker of €1,999 ($2,725) for the Austrian market. Nobody ever said the cutting edge was gonna be a cheap place to live.

Reem Acra Shows Fall 2010 Collection in Romantic Goth Film

Instead of doing a show or presentation during New York Fashion Week, designer Reem Acra chose to produce a three-minute short film titled “Do You Love Me?,” which expertly shows off the vampy mood of her Fall 2010 collection.

The clip opens with a dark-lipped model in an evening gown and feathered vest lying on a spinning wooden platform in a barren room, while giving the camera serious bedroom eyes.

Then the same model — with fuzzy electrocuted hair — pops up several times around the raw space wearing different looks from the new collection, which Acra describes as “Wednesday Addams having a playdate with Eloise.”

The romantic autumnal looks — which can be seen on ReemAcra.com — include creatively draped, slightly oversized, off-the-shoulder dresses featuring rich embroidery, enlarged floral prints and thousands of sequins, all in a rich palette of black, navy, burgundy, mustard, iridescent olive green, silver and gold.

The film ends with the model, donning a scarlet pout, hooked up to a polygraph machine to see if she’s telling the truth to the age-old question “Do you love me?” which flashes on the screen sporadically throughout the clip.

What her honest answer is, we may never know. However, we know ours would be a resounding “Yes!” if you were to ask us the same about Acra’s nouveau goth short film.

Was Acra’s film just as effective as a runway presentation? Let us know what you think in a comment.

And see which other designer opted for a video over a live show.

USA-Canada Too Close to Call, So Root for a Classic

The Olympic final between the United States and Canada on Sunday will be the most-watched hockey game played in North America this year — maybe this decade. Thankfully, unlike the endless build-up to a Super Bowl, there is not enough time to analyze this one electrifying hockey game to death. Instead, analysts are electing to predict along national lines.

“The key to the game is whether Canada can regain the hellacious forecheck it employed against Russia,” Pierre McGuire told FanHouse on Saturday. The NBC and TSN color commentator was born in New Jersey but has been a resident of Montreal for the last two decades. “If that happens, you have to like Team Canada’s chances.”

Ryan Miller plus the power play and overall team speed will prevail,” said NBC and Hockey Night in Canada studio analyst Mike Milbury, born and raised in Massachusetts. “I’m going with my gut. You have to know that, either way, the reaction in Canada is going to be memorable.”

Syracuse Slams ‘Nova, May Soon Be No.1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — In November, Syracuse couldn’t beat Division II Le Moyne on this court. Three months later, the Orange are Big East champions.

Unranked, unloved and overlooked to start the season, Syracuse clinched a share of the Big East regular-season title Saturday night by defeating nemesis Villanova 95-77 at the Carrier Dome before an on-campus NCAA record crowd of 34,616.

The fourth-ranked Orange (27-2, 14-2 Big East) also locked up the No. 1 seed in the Big East Tournament, and according to the last-minute chants from a rabid Syracuse student section, they also deserve to jump No. 3 Purdue and be ranked as the nation’s No. 1 team on Monday after No. 1 Kansas and No. 2 Kentucky lost earlier in the day.

“It doesn’t matter at all in our game where you’re rated,” Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said. “It really doesn’t. Now if it were football, I’d be really happy right now — just try and hold on for a couple more games and I would be in the national championship. That would be a great thing, wouldn’t it?”

It also would be great for Syracuse if the Orange could repeat history. The last time Syracuse won a share of the Big East regular-season title in 2003, the Orange also won the national title.

And if they can beat the nation’s No. 7 team by 18 points even with leading scorer Wes Johnson missing nine of 11 field goals, they could make another national title run. Especially if they can duplicate the performances of big men Rick Jackson (19 points, eight rebounds) and Arinze Onuaku (17 points, nine rebounds).

Jane After Dark: ‘Supernatural’ - What Does Dean Know?

Supernatural - Sam and Dean WinchesterHey, ‘Supernatural’ fans. Well, I’m part-way into season two, and I have to say, I was utterly depressed after watching the first episode, ‘In My Time of Dying.’ But of course, I forged ahead anyway. It seems there’s always a way to bring people back after they die on this show. Things aren’t set in stone at all.

Which is exactly why it’s hard to think that Sam could go to the dark side, or that he’s harboring some deep, dark demonic thing. According to Gordon, that dark side is going to come out and be a really bad guy. Apparently, John Winchester felt that way, too, before he died. That’s why he told Dean that if he couldn’t save Sam, he’d have to kill him.

What Movie Do You Wish You Could See Again for the First Time?

February 28, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment

I love hypothetical questions regarding movies, especially because they’re not so easy for me to answer. I’ve got such a wide taste in film that I can’t always pinpoint something like which one movie I wish I could see again for the first time. So the other night when my girlfriend asked, I drew a blank. For her, it was easy. She loves the twists in Mamet’s The Spanish Prisoner so much that she wishes she could go back and watch it again without knowledge of what’s going to happen.

If I was going with the surprise factor, I guess I’d like to see Psycho again for the first time. But not as I actually saw it for the first time, which was with full knowledge of all the twists in the film. I was unfortunately born into a time when Hithcock’s classic and both its shower scene and its ending is completely embedded into pop culture and the collective conscious. I’d prefer to go back to 1960 and see it as everyone else saw it for the first time, when it somewhat revolutionized the moviegoing experience and spawned the very concept of movie twists and spoilers.

Obama’s Plan to Stem Foreclosures Will Do More Harm Than Good

The Obama administration is mulling a plan that would require lenders to make efforts to enroll homeowners in the government’s Home Affordable Modification Program before they pursue foreclosure. The problem is that many struggling homeowners simply can’t afford the house and the requirements could serve to drag out the foreclosure process.
