Vulnerable Ark. Dem faces Senate primary challenge (AP)
AP - Democratic U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln, a moderate already considered one of the Senate’s most vulnerable members, is facing another roadblock in her bid for a third term: a challenge from the left side of her own party.

No Such Thing as Fair Play With OT

If the NFL ran the Olympics, 33 million Canadians might have jumped into the Bering Strait on Sunday.
Instead of Sidney Crosby scoring to beat the U.S. for the hockey gold medal, the game would have been decided by the faceoff.
First team to control the puck wins!
Overtime rules are not quite that bad in football, but they’re obtuse enough that something should be done.
The good news is the NFL is considering it. The bad news is I have to invoke the word “fairness,” which inevitably makes me sound like a whiner.
So to sum up my argument: Waaaahhhh!
I realize life and the NFL aren’t supposed to be fair. There’s no such thing as an ideal solution or guaranteed fairness. But when teams don’t have a reasonable chance to score/win, a little whining is in order.
The NFL’s latest idea: If Team A opens with a touchdown, it wins. If it kicks a field goal, Team B gets a chance to tie. Or it could win with a touchdown.
If neither team scores a touchdown on its first possession, the first team to score wins.
Perfect?

How Shaq’s Injury Might Affect Playoffs
Filed under: Bobcats, Bucks, Bulls, Cavaliers, Celtics, Magic

Shaquille O’Neal’s out for the regular season and probably a significant chunk of the playoffs, depending on how his thumb heals and his conditioning. But what does that mean for Cleveland and their title hopes?
All right, toss out the regular season. The Cavs have a six-game lead on the rest of the East, the best player in the NBA, a deep team regardless and they play in the Eastern Conference. Even in a worst-case scenario they fall to number two in the East behind Orlando, which actually might work out better for them.
The regular season doesn’t matter, but the postseason does. Let’s take a look at the teams they could end up facing and how Shaq’s absence could affect things. We’ll assume three things. One, Zydrunas Ilgauskas re-signs with Cleveland, since even with him supposedly “mulling it over,” odds are he comes back “home.” And two, we’ll assume Shaq is not available until the Eastern Conference Finals. He could be back as early as the end of the first round, but we’ll go ahead and assume a moderate-case scenario, factoring in conditioning. Three, we’ll assume the Raptors get the fifth seed because of their offense and get bounced in the first round because of their defense.
Let’s start with the first round of the playoffs.

‘Desperate Housewives’ - ‘The Chase’ Recap

(S06E16) “You may envy our lives, Gaby, but it’s nothing compared to how we envy yours.” - Bob to Gaby
After last week’s episode centered around Robin, I expected this week’s installment to put the main ladies back front and center. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the ‘Desperate Housewives’‘ writers hadn’t forgotten about some of the background characters and decided to give them center stage this week.
‘The Chase’ offered us tidbits about Penny, Karen McCluskey, Andrew, Celia and, two of my favorite recurring characters, Bob and Lee. While introducing a new cryptic character named Sam … For sure, he has a secret agenda that will rock Wisteria Lane.

The Keeping Score Interview: ‘Cop Out’ Composer Harold Faltermeyer

Chances are even if you don’t know Harold Faltermeyer by name, his work is immediately familiar. In the 1980s, he not only composed the scores for Fletch, Beverly Hills Cop, and Top Gun, but he worked with musical luminaries like Giorgio Moroder, Donna Summer, Barbara Streisand, Patti LaBelle and many more. “Axel F,” probably his most famous piece of music, went to Number One on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Chart and Number Three on their Hot 100 Chart, and further cemented Eddie Murphy’s status as a superstar when it was released in conjunction with Beverly Hills Cop in 1984.
Suffice it to say that Faltermeyer has been out of the news for a while, but this week he returns as composer of the score for Kevin Smith’s Cop Out. A buddy cop adventure that the Clerks director hand-picked Faltermeyer to provide music for, the movie pays homage to the decade in which the film composer flourished, and provides a musical backdrop that suits its style and tone, and most importantly, stands out as a terrific and entertaining collection of themes.
Cinematical recently caught up with Faltermeyer via telephone to discuss his work on Cop Out. In addition to describing his collaboration with Smith, he talked about the task of updating his signature ’80s sound, and reflected on the music and memories that made him famous.
Cinematical: How did you get involved with Cop Out, and what direction or mandate did Kevin Smith give you when he enlisted you to compose the score?

As Earnings Season Winds Down, Is It Springtime for Stocks?
Hard to believe, but the major indexes are basically unchanged since October. Still, fourth-quarter earnings and economic reports have been generally supportive of share prices. And the case for stocks based on valuation may be stronger — until the Fed starts raising rates in earnest.
