AP - White House aides are increasingly convinced that accused 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will never face trial in a civilian court and are trying to cut a deal that would still transfer Guantanamo Bay terrorism suspects to the U.S., where many would faces charges, a senior administration official said Monday.

Vanessa Paradis Replacing Lily Allen in Chanel Coco Cocoon Ad Campaign

It seems Karl Lagerfeld just can’t get enough of Vanessa Paradis — the triple threat French singer/actress/model who is also Johnny Depp’s longtime girlfriend and baby mama.

Most recently Lagerfeld tapped the beauty to be the face of the Rouge Coco lip color collection and now he’s replacing Lily Allen with the famously gap-toothed Paradis to represent the Spring 2010 collection of those plush, Michelin Man-like Coco Cocoon bags.

The new Cocoon ads will be 37-year-old Paradis’ fifth starring role for Chanel; the love affair began in 1991 when Vanessa promoted the Coco fragrance in an ad campaign shot by Jean-Paul Goude, which featured the model swinging in a large birdcage.

Then, in 2004, Paradis became ambassadress of Chanel’s Ligne Cambon handbag, followed by the New Mademoiselle model in 2005.

Since it seems like American fans are going to be seeing a lot more of Paradis in the future — especially since she’s currently making the gossip rags with rumors of her forbidding Depp to do a love scene with his “The Tourist” co-star Angelina Jolie — they can brush up on her musical history with the greatest hits album, “Best of Vanessa Paradis,” released late last year.

As for the Coco Cocoon ads — which we’re secretly hoping feature this cocoon-like hairstyle from Chanel’s Spring 2010 couture runway — they’ll be out this May.

Camby Seeks Portland Return Although ‘Anything’s Possible’

Marcus CambyDENVER — Just about every place Marcus Camby has been wants him to have a homecoming. But who is the leader in the clubhouse?

The guys he plays for now.

The center started his NBA career way back in 1996, having a two-year stint with Toronto. There’s been no word about the Raptors wanting to bring Camby back, but every other NBA team he has toiled for just might go after him when he becomes a free agent this summer.

New York, where he played from 1998-2002, is expected to have interest. So is Denver, where he played from 2002-08. The Clippers have been the most vocal in wanting to bring back Camby, but the Clippers perhaps didn’t get bonus points by dealing him last month to Portland after 1 1/2 seasons in Los Angeles.

For now, the Trail Blazers are the leader.

Przybilla Slips in Shower, Reinjures Knee

Joel PrzybillaDENVER — How bad has it been this season for the Portland Trail Blazers?

“Now, even our injured players are getting injured,” lamented Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan before Sunday night’s game at Denver.

McMillan got a call Saturday afternoon from athletic trainer Jay Jensen with the news Portland center Joel Przybilla had slipped in the shower earlier in the day at his Milwaukee home. It was confirmed Sunday that Przybilla, who was lost for the season Dec. 22 due to a ruptured patella tendon in his right knee, had re-ruptured that tendon in the mishap and will undergo in a few days his second surgery in 2 ½ months.

“At first Jay called me right before (the Trail Blazers) left (Saturday) for Denver and said, ‘You’re not going to believe this,”’ said McMillan, whose team has been riddled by injuries all season. “I didn’t when he said it … It’s been that type of season where we’ve had this happen. We’ve just got to keep moving forward.”

Olive Telecom India announces AAA-powered handset

Looks like someone else out there thinks that non-removable batteries are seriously uncool. Olive Telecommunications’ FrvrOn V-G2300 is a GSM phone with a 1.5-inch color display display and an FM radio — small potatoes, right? That is, until you take into account the fact that it’s dual-powered: not only does it pack a rechargeable Li-ion battery, but should that run out you can get an additional hour’s worth of talk time from any standard AAA battery. Indeed, this is a pretty sweet deal if you’re living / traveling in an area without consistent power. Throw in a decent price point ($37) and we’re guessing this would do pretty well in Madhya Pradesh. Get a closer look for yourself after the break.

Inhabitat’s Week in Green: Ferrari, Porsche, and the Glucowizzard

The Week in Green is a new item from our friends at Inhabitat, recapping the week’s most interesting green developments and clean tech news for us.

This week Inhabitat marveled at all of the incredible, efficient, and oh-so-sleek vehicles unveiled at this year’s Geneva Motors Show. We were excited to see Ferrari roll out its first hybrid vehicle, the 599 HY-KERS while Porsche upped the ante with its stunningly beautiful Nano EV, an all-electric version of the world’s cheapest car.

The Maldives also made waves this week with hopeful plans to float their sinking nation using miniature man-made islands. That may be a while off however, so in the meantime why not enjoy the comforts of home at sea aboard this bizarre sofa boat — a steal at only $16,064. Rounding off our flotilla of floating news, Hexicon unveiled a smart design for a floating array of wind turbines that can be easily installed in deep seas.

We also saw several developments in wearable tech that stand to change how we interact with the wired world. The Glucowizzard is a tiny solar powered chip that can be implanted in a person’s wrist to easily monitor glucose levels. If implanting gadgets gets under your skin, then you might be a fan of Microsoft’s Skinput system, which uses a micro projector to beam a touchscreen display onto your arm. And to power all that gear on the go, look no further than Bourne Energy’s backpack power plant — a bright blue generator that provides portable hydroelectric power.

Did ‘The Doctors’ Trick A Man Into Penis Surgery?

the_doctors_cbs_logo_2010If this story weren’t so strange, you would swear it was a FunnyorDie.com sketch. It could be a ‘Saturday Night Live’ bit, but their stuff is rarely this hilarious. Tyler Bowling, a 21-year-old Minnesotan who had a condition that caused white pimples to appear on his penis, received a free laser treatment for removal of the penile papules when he consulted with Dr. William Groff in Los Angeles. The $4,500 procedure was done gratis in exchange for Tyler’s story to be told on CBS’s syndicated daytime show, ‘The Doctors.’

However, Tyler Bowling is filing suit against the doctor, his practice, the producers of ‘The Doctors’ and even the company that created the laser that was used to fix his problems, claiming he was tricked into getting the work done and becoming the fodder for the TV show.
