Griffey’s Advice Gave Upton a Boost
TUCSON, Ariz. - Justin Upton has been compared to Ken Griffey Jr. on more than one occasion.
You know, strong, swift, able to leap tall buildings … all that kind of stuff.
He says the comparison is “nice,” but adds a cautionary note that while Junior has two decades in the game, “I’m working on my third year.”
Still, the 22-year-old right fielder of the Arizona Diamondbacks may well be following the same kind of career path that the now 40-year-old Griffey did as Seattle’s first legitimate superstar many moons ago.

Chuck Liddell vs. Rich Franklin in the Works for June’s UFC 115
Chuck Liddell and Rich Franklin have agreed to meet at UFC 115 in June, MMA Fighting has learned. Several Internet reports surfaced over the past 24 hours stating that the light heavyweight fight would take place at the rumored UFN 22 in April, but as MMA Junkie first reported, the plan is for the fight to take place June 12 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The organization has yet to officially announce the fight or why Tito Ortiz will not be facing Liddell after all.

Packard Bell Studio ST media playback drive invades Europe
It’s not much more than a hard drive with HD media playback abilities, but the Packard Bell Studio ST certainly looks nice, doesn’t it? It’s Europe-only for now, but we’re hoping parent company Acer brings over a US-branded version of this box, which holds up to a 2TB hard drive and can do 1080p out over HDMI with Dolby Digital. Codec support is described as “all main formats,” which is a little shady, but we’ll be forgiving if it’s cheaper than the Western Digital WD TV Live HD.
[Thanks, Matt]

PlayStation Move requires only 2MB of RAM, developers breath sigh of relief
While it’s a crying shame that Sony’s PlayStation Move won’t have full four-player support, at least the technology is efficient; our buddies at Joystiq are reporting that the camera-and-wand based motion control game system will only minimally impact game performance. Quizzing Sony’s David Coombes, they found out that the advanced image processing required to make sense of your wild, flailing movements will take only 1-2 MB of RAM. Of course, when you consider that the PS3 has only 256MB of fast XDR memory to begin with, that 2MB isn’t as “insignificant” as Sony would have you believe, but coupled with the company’s claim that the whole shebang takes “under a frame” of the Cell CPU’s processing time, we’re inclined to think it won’t be much of an issue for the end user. Assuming they fix that nasty lag, of course. Check out our full PlayStation Move guide for more details.

‘Caprica’ - ‘The Imperfections of Memory’ Recap
(S01E07) One of the best aspects of ‘Caprica’ (and its predecessor series) is the creators’ ability to know exactly how long to drag out a storyline before people get bored with it and replace it with the next level of the storyline. The final, single word spoken by Daniel Graystone in tonight’s episode proves that the story is ready for the next step.
Another benefit is the ability to have so much happening at once that the viewer has absolutely no idea how the season is going to end, which is why he or she keeps tuning in every week.
Yet another benefit is that the technobabble is nowhere near ‘Star Trek’ level annoying. It’s realistic enough to keep interest without making up every other word.

SXSW Review: Kick-Ass

Having spent almost three straight days in Hall H last July sorting through the wheat and the chaff of the geek world, I admit that I was one of the first in line to champion the preview footage from Kick-Ass as a highlight of the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con because, well, it kicked ass. It seemed tailor-made for comic book fans, exploiting their fantasies about becoming caped avengers, while at the same time offering enough foul-mouthed, visceral action to stop even the most jaded moviegoers in their tracks. And of course it featured Chloe Moretz‘ Hit Girl, a potty-mouthed preteen destined to become a pop culture lightning rod thanks to her equal dexterity with four-letter insults and flying jump kicks.
Unfortunately, as a full-length film, Kick-Ass is a great comic book come to life, but not much else. A faithful recreation of the rhythms of episodic funny-paper storytelling, Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita’s 2008 series gives greater scope to the set pieces shown in clips and trailers, but never quite finds enough cohesion or dramatic clarity to become a fully satisfying film.
