With the Cannes Film Festival fully underway, we sat down with model, designer, and activist Liya Kebede to get the inside scoop on how she prepares for the endless red carpet.

StyleList: What are your three travel essentials?
Liya Kebede: A good book! Right now I’m in between, but I’m trying to get the new Paulo Cohelo book. I always have my Mac with me because I watch a lot of films, and I keep everything in my LemLem bag.

SL: When picking your wardrobe for Cannes, what is the process like?
LK: It’s very complicated, and its a very intense. Until about a week ago I did not know what I was wearing. I look at a lot of different things, and sometimes I work with designers and they make something custom. This time i found something really special and I’m going a little out of the box.

SL: What is the best beauty tip anyone has ever given you?
LK: Take good care of your skin, and hydrate. If you have good skin, everything else will fall into place.

SL: Tell us about your company LemLem. You’ve designed for the fashion and home markets, but are there any other areas you’d like to expand to?
LK: Definitely. It’s becoming a force on it’s own, and it’ll be interesting to see where we’ll be in the next five years. It has such an incredible following already and it’s a very identifiable brand.

SL: How do you balance being a mother, activist, model, and designer all at the same time?
LK: Oh you know, it’s not always smooth, but I’m really passionate about all of these things.
I really enjoy each part.

Which White Jeans Are Best For Your Body Type

White jeans have been getting a bum rap for way too long. Not only have they been unjustly exiled to certain seasons with that ridiculous post-Labor Day rule, but a lot of people are too scared to wear them simply because they are, well…white. Which, as I hope to convince you of today, is not synonymous with unflattering.

Yes, if something happens, “they can get really dirty”-but that can be avoided by….using napkins. And/or OxiClean. And just because they’re light doesn’t mean they’re going to make you look big. White jeans should be approached just like any other piece of denim: by fit.

In the slideshow below, I’ve shopped the best white denim for three height categories-tall, medium and petite-divided in two sections: slim and curvy. Click through to find out which pair works for your body type.

Suddenly, everyone’s wearing this classic color combination. %VIRTUAL-Gallery-188352% We know it’s not the most revolutionary of trends, but black and white, ever the oldie but goodie, is one of spring’s biggest.

Though it seems like plain common sense to immediately break out your brights and pastels in celebration of spring’s warm arrival, and while we’re not urging you to eschew color altogether, we do think black and white looks especially chic in the springtime.

So far, we’ve seen black and white just about everywhere — on the runways, on celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Alba, and on style bloggers. With this classic color combination, there’s a variety of styles available, whether you chose to go ’60s inspired mod (think Mad Men) with a bold, graphic print, or simple sophisticated with easy separates (think color-blocking!).

Now, it’s your turn! Click through the gallery to get inspired and see our picks for the best black and white additions to your wardrobe this spring.

This year, fashion addicts rejoiced when it was announced that the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring exhibition would be “PUNK: Chaos to Couture,” which meant one thing, punk was taking over the red carpet. This year a who’s who of celebrities and designers arrived dressed in their punk-inspired best. While some truly embraced the theme, others took a much safer approach.

15-year-old actress, Elle Fanning took a HUGE risk in a tie dye Rodarte gown with fierce blue eyeshadow, while Rooney Mara was a vision in white wearing Givenchy. We saw pops of floral and pink on a pregnant Kim Kardashian, Anna Wintour and a whole lot of pink on Gwenyth Paltrow. Whether they were dressed in spikes like Sienna Miller wearing Burberry, or a slinky sheer dress like Miley Cyrus in Marc Jacobs, the red carpet was full of surprises.
